EPSILON ALPHA CHAPTER WINS 1st AND 3rd PLACE!

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Epsilon Alpha Chapter earned two awards in the Best Practices competition sponsored by Deloitte during the 2019 BAP Northwest Regional Meeting held in Spokane, WA on Saturday, April 6th.

It was an exciting day in which Chris Tash and Jace Halttunen won first place in the category revolving around community service.  They presented a new initiative of the chapter in which BAP is working to increase the donations to the School of Business’ Professional Clothing Closet through outreach to local accounting firms and not-for-profits.  These clothes are then offered to School of Business students free of charge.  The chapter will also be providing a workshop to educate students on the various forms of professional dress and then offer students the opportunity to meet with a professional stylist.  As part of their first place win, Chris and Jace will represent Portland State University and compete at the BAP Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois this August.

The excitement continued when Ju Hyun (Joanne) Lee and Ningxin Xi, took third place in a category that focused on using technology to reach out and connect members. They presented the chapter’s establishment of BAP Buddies, a technology driven peer-mentoring program.  This program will be used to connect students with the goal of preparing them for the recruiting process.

The chapter is grateful to the BAP Alumni Advisory Board, chaired by Abbie Therrow of Grant Thorton.  The Board meets throughout the year with the competition team and provides essential guidance as they prepared for the competition. The alumni’s support and feedback during the team’s final practices were vital to their success!

Attending this year’s Regional Meeting were (from left) Chris Tash, Kelly Lutz (Faculty Advisor), Tin Nguyen, Amy Morales, Jace Halttunen, Ju Hyun (Joanne) Lee, Cara Bryce and Ningxin Xi.  Not pictured are BAP members Allison Davis, Agnieszka Zoltowski, Gabriel Caballero, Bo Jiang and Thanh Nguyen who were critical to the team’s achievements.

“We are immensely proud of our students and their commitment to representing Portland State University with the highest level of professionalism.  Their dedication, teamwork and passion for these new initiatives were evident during the competition and resulted in their impressive achievements.” said Kelly Lutz, Instructor of Accounting.

Congratulations to all the members and candidates of BAP on these impressive wins!
